R.M. French, trans. Foreword by Huston Smith.
This book is an absolute must for spiritual seekers of all persuasions. It is deeply moving, helpful and inspiring. It was also the inspiration behind J.D. Salinger’s book Frannie and Zooey. This is a book to read again and again; it never gets old, it always inspires.
Written by an anonymous Russian Christian, the original manuscript came into the hands of a monk on Mount Athos in the nineteenth century and was first published in 1884. The book chronicles the author as he travels through Russia and Siberia, visiting the monasteries and shrines of the saints in order to learn how to follow St. Paul’s teaching to “pray without ceasing.”
