Few works in world literature have inspired so vast an audience, in nations with radically different languages and cultures, as the Mahabharata, a Sanskrit verse epic written approximately 2,000 years ago. The Mahabharata is the largest Indian epic ever composed and details the story of the war between the Kurus and Pandavas. More than that, the Mahabharata details the values of spirituality, ethics, principles of conduct and everything else that involves Hindu society. When William Buck ran into the 5,000 page Mahabharata, he decided that a modern version, written for a modern Western audience, needed to be done. The translation is easy to follow, enjoyable and accessible to all.
